Grief Is a Long-Term Process

Grief never truly ends because love never ends.

If you simply cannot understand why someone is grieving so much for so long, then consider yourself fortunate that you do not understand.

Joanne Cacciatore

I was scrolling through Facebook and saw this quote. It made me stop and think. This hit home. It’s so spot-on.

In a previous blog post, I said something similar about grief: Lucky are those who don’t know what it’s like.

And it’s so true. Unless you have experienced the loss of a loved one, you really cannot grasp the magnitude of grief and the life-altering effects of loss.

There is no set timeline for grief. Every griever and every situation is different. Grief is messy, it doesn’t follow any rules. And while we certainly can get better and enjoy life again, grief never completely disappears. It becomes part of us and we learn to live with it. Our lost loved ones left their mark on our lives, and that’s something you simply can’t erase.

Grief never truly ends because love never ends.
